East of Gunbalanya (Oenpelli) spreading as far as the Mann River in Arnhem Land, are ten active outstations where several hundred people live a strong tradition based lifestyle. From the East Aligator River to Kakadu's border over to 'The Mann', Injalak Arts & Crafts Centre is the artists' artwork gathering place. Originaly a small shed for screen printing Injalak Art Centre with it's wide verandah's was officially opened in 1989. Creations strongly bound to billabongs, swamps and meandering rivers, teeming with fish, birds, spirits, animals - are momentarily captured in action by intricate rarrk work - fine lines of ochre pulled by a few hairs, or thinly spliced leaf - onto transportable mediums to be sent on their way.
