Julalikari Arts

27 Women differing in western educational opportunities, traditional cultural and life experience, wanted to paint in a town based Art Centre and so Julalikari Arts was established. A diverse range of artwork is produced at the Centre by artists who's traditional country is spread right across the Barkly Regional and even as far North as Borroloola. The women range in age from 17 to over 80. Although culture plays a very important role in the lives of the women who work here – the artists tend not to paint specific dreaming stories or about specific sites. Rather, it is the love of country and cultural activities that is the inspiration. Bush tucker, animals and landscape, and more recently for the younger women – social issues influences current work.
