There's a bang of truck doors, shuffling, murmurs and an appearance of another magnificent wooden being, painted up, wrapped in blankets, placed by the counter as gently as a person, for cataloguing and sale. Concentrating on the marketing of traditional and contemporary arts including bark paintings, wooden sculpture, fibre craft, prints and items of material culture, Maningrida Arts and Culture, MAC, has a reputation for quality, innovation, vibrancy and diversity in artworks. This is attributed to the cultural diversity and strength of the eight different language groups living in Maningrida Township and the surrounding 34 outstations. Artworks are represented in major galleries, museums and other public institutions, nationally and internationally. Private collectors are in regular contact with MAC who currently deal with some 40 commercial galleries in Australia and overseas.
